Roma transfer chief Monchi has admitted his side won’t be making another bid for Leicester City winger and Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez after having three offers rejected.

The Italian giants have emerged as leading contenders for the Algerian winger, who has also been linked with the Gunners both this year and last.

With Arsenal seemingly prioritising a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, it remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger will push again for Mahrez, but it now looks as though Roma won’t stand in their way.

Providing an update on Roma’s pursuit of the 26-year-old, Monchi explained that they would not be improving on the offer they’ve already made.

‘In the last press conference I said we had bid what we believe to be a fair offer, which is also the biggest in the club’s history,’ Monchi said.

‘We won’t bid again. We’ve conducted ourselves in the right way by talking to Leicester City. Now the ball is in their court.

‘We’re waiting for an answer. We’re working on other options but we’re relaxed given our squad is 90% complete.’

Mahrez won PFA Player of the Year after his role in Leicester’s shock 2015/16 title win, and remains one of the most highly rated attacking players in the Premier League even after a dip in form last season.

Wenger, however, recently seemed to also rule out moving again for Mahrez as he believes he doesn’t need him.

‘We were never close (to a deal),’ Wenger said earlier this month. ‘I rate him as a player but we have similar types with Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and now Jack Wilshere back. We have plenty of the same type of player.’
