Matic in action against West Ham (Getty)

Chelsea fans were fuming at their club’s decision to sell Nemanja Matic as the midfielder quickly impressed in a Manchester United shirt.

In the first half of the Red Devils’ game against West Ham the Serbian ran the show, with his tackle starting the move that saw Romelu Lukaku open the scoring.

With Chelsea having lost 3-2 at home to Burnley yesterday it was a reminder of precisely what they let go.

In addition to the fans being frustrated, it’s difficult to imagine Antonio Conte won’t hold similar feelings. The Chelsea coach has indicated that Matic was sold against his wishes, with the club thinking it best to accept Manchester United’s £40million bid.
