Arsene Wenger says Diego Costa’s situation at Chelsea is ‘special’ but insists Alexis Sanchez’s circumstances at Arsenal are not comparable because the Gunners want to keep the forward.

Costa, 28, has been told he can leave Chelsea this summer and did not feature in the club’s pre-season tour.

The Brazilian gave a wide-ranging interview to the Daily Mail on Tuesday in which he accuses the club of treating him ‘like a criminal’.

Alexis Sanchez has been the subject of intense speculation this summer with the Chilean believed to be keen on leaving Arsenal.

However, Wenger maintains Arsenal will not sell the forward and says his situation is different to Costa’s at Chelsea.

‘I have enough problems not to make an assessment on Chelsea’s problems’ said Wenger.

‘This is a special situation [with Costa] when you look from the outside – it’s a different situation.

‘We always wanted to keep Sanchez and – we hope – even now that we can extend the contracts of Sanchez, Chamberlain and Ozil.

‘So it’s difficult for me to analyse the Chelsea situation with Costa.’

Sanchez was seen flying to Paris on Sunday, fuelling speculation that he is set for a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Arsenal’s stance remains clear that they will not sell the Chilean and they remain hopeful he could sign a new deal before his contract expires next summer.
