Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba says he’s ready to become the main man at Old Trafford after losing his tag as the world’s most expensive player.

The Frenchman became the most expensive player in world football when he completed a £89million move to Old Trafford in 2016 but Neymar’s £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain means Pogba’s lost his tag.

Pogba’s price often weighed heavy on him last season when he was good, but not outstanding, on his return to Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old though believes he can become United’s main man this season, now that Neymar is the most expensive player in football history.

Last season the first question from everyone was always all about the price tag,’ Pogba said at a sponsors’ event on Tuesday.

‘Now everyone is asking about the football. That tells you everything.

‘When I left I always felt like I had missed something at United because I wasn’t a first XI player. Now I’m happy to be back. I grew up a lot in Italy and I have come back as a man.

‘I am always confident and now it is my second season. I know more about the Premier League and I adapt more with the team.’

United got their Premier League campaign off to an emphatic start with a 4-0 win against West Ham on Sunday.

Nemanja Matic was awarded the man of the match award for his performance in the win and Pogba says the Serbian will free him up in attacking positions this term.

‘Against West Ham, Matic was starting behind and I could worry more about attacking. I feel good playing that way,’ said Pogba.
