Arsenal have rejected a £44million bid from Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez, the star’s advisers have confirmed.

The 28-year-old has less than 12 months to run on his existing deal at the Emirates and is keen to leave the club to compete in the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger, though, insists Sanchez will not be sold and says the club hope to agree a new deal with him next season.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with a move for the Chilean and Sanchez’s representatives have confirmed that City have presented the most ‘concrete’ offer.

‘Manchester City’s last bid was €50m (£44m) and Arsenal rejected it,’ a source told Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.

‘Now the club are preparing a new offer to see if they can convince the people of Arsenal.’

Sanchez was spotted boarding a plane to Paris last weekend in a move that fueled speculation over a transfer to Unai Emery’s men.

However, the Chilean’s advisers have played down Paris Saint-Germain’s interest and say none of the speculation is ‘real’.

‘Everything that has been said about Paris Saint-Germain is speculation,’ continued the source.

‘There is nothing real. The only concrete offer that exists for Alexis is City.’

Sanchez’s return to Arsenal’s pre-season was delayed because of illness and he missed their Premier League opener with an abdominal strain.

The forward remains keen on leaving the Gunners but is said to respect Wenger’s decision to deny him an exit this summer.
