Tottenham are on the verge of completing their first transfer of the summer after agreeing a deal to sign Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs have held lengthy negotiations with the Dutch giants in recent weeks but have settled on a packaged deal for the Colombian international that could reach £40million.

The 21-year-old was hugely impressive in Ajax’s run to the Europa League final last term and will be the fourth ex-Ajax star to join Spurs in recent years following moves from Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs will pay an up-front fee of around £27m and there are a number of add-ons that could see the deal rise to £40m.

Should the deal rise to £40m, Sanchez will become Spurs’ club record signing by eclipsing the £30m shelled out for Moussa Sissoko last summer.

Sanchez could jet in to London on Thursday evening, though the deal is unlikely to be formalised before Friday in order to play against Chelsea on Sunday.

The defender’s arrival is likely to be bad news for Kevin Wimmer, who is surplus to requirements in north London and further down the pecking order.
