Arsenal are set to be offered the chance to sign Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as the Italian giants look to offload the Croatian in the coming days.

The Gunners have previously been linked with the 24-year-old, with Arsene Wenger known to want a new midfielder though must first sell before he can buy.

And now Italian TV station SportItalia say the Gunners are the club who hold the biggest interest in offering Brozovic an escape route, and will be offered the chance to sign him this week.

Despite being one of few shining lights for Inter last season, he has found himself surplus to requirements under new manager Luciano Spalletti.

And negotiations with Arsenal could finally ‘come alive’ over the next few days as Arsene Wenger mulls over the possibility of reinforcing his midfield after a disappointing loss to Stoke.

The Gunners succumbed to a 1-0 loss at the Britannia Stadium, with midfielder Granit Xhaka hauled off in the second half as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.

Arsenal have only made two signings this summer, Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer and £50m man Alexandre Lacazette.

It is believed that Wenger does not want to add any more new arrivals until he has first freed up spaces in the squad, but the defeat to Stoke could force a rethink.

Wenger is light on quality options in midfield, and would be willing to sell the likes of Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny if suitable offers are received.

If he wants Brozovic quickly, though, he may need to forgo that plan and pay up Inter’s asking price, with the Italian side more than willing to sanction a move to the Emirates this summer.
