Marucs Rashford’s reputation as an ice cool assassin has been well earned during the course of his fledgling career but the Manchester United youngster is going through something of a rut at present.

After drawing a blank against West Ham last week and missing a great opportunity to draw his side level in the European Super Cup against Real Madrid earlier this month, Rashford was presented with the perfect opportunity to break his duck for the season against Swansea.

Put clean through by a superb Paul Pogba pass, the teenager used his searing pace to power away from his marker but when it came to the finishing touch, he opted to try and dink the ball over Lukasz Fabianski, but succeeded only in plonking the ball straight into the goalkeeper’s grateful arms.

The miss brought back memories of Danny Welbeck’s ill-fated attempt to chip Manuel Neuer in a Champions League quarter-final and many fans were quick to pounce on the comparison…
