Jamie Redknapp believes Scotland international Andrew Robertson will turn out to be a ‘very astute’ signing for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The 23-year-old put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Anfield after Liverpool agreed a fee believed to be worth £10million with Hull City last month.

Robertson had impressed for the Tigers but was keen to leave following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

He made his league debut under Klopp in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace and Redknapp was pleased by his promising display.

In a column for the Daily Mail, he wrote: ‘Liverpool have a proud history of great Scottish players, such as Dalglish and Souness… and they may have another in Andrew Robertson.

‘James Milner did well at left back last season but Liverpool needed a specialist there. Robertson gave Liverpool balance against Crystal Palace.

‘He offers another option down the left and his delivery was superb.

‘If Philippe Coutinho stays, Robertson will let him cut inside and shoot more frequently.

‘There will be greater tests of his defensive capabilities but he will prove a very astute signing.’

Liverpool dropped two points at Watford in their opening game of the new season but bounced back against Palace as Sadio Mane clinched the narrow win with a late goal.

Klopp’s side face Hoffenheim in the Champions League on Wednesday night before returning to league again with a fixture against Arsenal at the weekend.
