Luke Shaw has told Jose Mourinho he is ready to make his Manchester United first team return after completing his comeback for the reserves on Monday night.

The England international hasn’t featured at all since damaging ligaments against Swansea back in April but managed 59 minutes against the same opposition as he took a major step forward in his rehabilitation.

Shaw endured a difficult first season under Mourinho’s management with the Special One openly questioning the left-back’s desire and determination to play through the pain barrier.

The pursuit of Tottenham’s Danny Rose placed Shaw’s future in further jeopardy but with Spurs refusing to sanction his sale, Shaw looks set to earn a reprieve and insists he is ready to answer Mourinho’s call whenever it may arrive.

‘I’m feeling really good and I only push on from here,’ a smiling Shaw told MUTV.

‘I’m looking for the first-team spot now, I’m going to keep pushing, and when the manager needs me I’m going to be ready.

‘Whenever that is, I’m really looking forward to it. I’d rather it was sooner rather than later, but I’m feeling good and whenever I’m called upon, I’m ready.

‘I was very happy to get an hour tonight – it was very important for me and for Ashley to get the minutes after the rehab we’ve had.

‘It was a very positive 60 minutes – me and Ash both feel good. I feel very good and hopefully I can push on now, keep myself fit and get stronger and stronger.’
