Tottenham are trying to snatch Manchester City and England prodigy Jadon Sancho from under the nose of north London rivals Arsenal, according to reports.

The 17-year-old forward has failed to report to City training for several weeks as he pushes for a return to his native London, and had been widely expected to end up at Arsenal.

But The Mirror report that Spurs believe they can offer Sancho a more attractive option – and a likelier route into the first team – and are readying a £3 million offer.

Sancho only has one year left on his scholarship deal with City and is refusing to pen a first professional contract, fearing that his path to the first team is blocked at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola has a host of attacking options to call on, with Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane all taking to the field against Everton.

Spurs hope the offer of £3m now, more than City are likely to get in compensation next summer, could convince them to sell a player who no longer wants to be at the club.

Sancho’s best friend Reiss Nelson currently plays for Arsenal, and the two have been hanging out together in recent weeks, with many expecting them to be playing alongside each other in the near future.

RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have also expressed interest, with Sancho even telling his teammates he was likely to join BVB at the start of the summer.

But Tottenham are set to jump to the front of the queue for the Under-17 European Championships Player of the Tournament, and are optimistic about winning the race to land one of Europe’s highest rated youngsters.
