Arsenal have received an offer from Inter Milan to sign German defender Shkodran Mustafi, according to reports.

Mustafi was a £35million signing for Arsene Wenger last summer but has endured a mixed time at the Emirates.

After picking up an injury before Christmas, Mustafi struggled in the second-half of the season but returned to the starting line-up at Stoke City last weekend.

Wenger has admitted that outgoings will be necessary if the club are going to sign more players before the window closes next week, and Arsenal have received an offer for Mustafi.

The Daily Mirror say Inter Milan hope to sign the 25-year-old on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal worth more than £20million.

The initial signs were that the Gunners would dismiss the approach but Inter are refusing to give in and it is claimed there is a feeling among the Arsenal players that a deal could materialise.

Arsenal have expressed interest in want-away Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, along with Chelsea and Liverpool, and Wenger has also targeted Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

Speaking about Arsenal’s efforts in the summer transfer window, Wenger said yesterday: ‘I am very pleased with our market because we bought good players who can integrate with our style of play.

‘That’s what we want. On the other hand, it is very difficult. Today, the prices are out of proportion. The transfer market has become very demanding today.

‘There is no transfer market anymore because the price depends only on the identity of the buyer and when you are English, you have straight away 50 per cent [extra] on the price of a player and that makes it difficult to act.’
