Manchester City are preparing to make a final take it or leave it offer of £70million for Alexis Sanchez and it could be enough to tempt Arsene Wenger into selling, according to reports.

The Chile international has entered the final 12 months of his contract and looks destined to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Wenger has conceded it is unlikely the 28-year-old will agree to signing an extension but is prepared to let him wind down his contract but has remained adamant that last season’s top goalscorer will not be sold before the August 31 deadline.

Manchester City have emerged as the leading candidates to prise Sanchez from Arsenal with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea having dropped out of the running.

Pep Guardiola is keen to be reunited with the player he signed for Barcelona back in 2011 but has thus far held off from launching a bid, but the Independent claims that is about to change as the transfer window enters its final stage.

The report claims that despite Wenger’s public stance, a bid in the region of £70million could be enough to convince the Frenchman that a sale would make economic sense and therefore be too good to turn down.
