Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Shkodran Mustafi both trained on Saturday ahead of Arsenal’s showdown against Liverpool with their futures the focus of intense speculation.

Chelsea and Liverpool are both vying for the England international winger who is said to have rejected Arsenal’s latest contract offer of £180,000-a-week and told Arsene Wenger he is keen to seek a new challenge.

Like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Oxlade-Chamberlain has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and Wenger must now decide whether to sanction his sale and spark a bidding war between two Premier League rivals, or risk the 23-year-old leaving on a free next summer.

ARSENAL TRANSFERS OUT

Gabriel (£10m, to Valencia), Chris Willock (free, to Benfica), Yaya Sanogo, Stefan O’Connor, Kristopher da Graca and Kostas Pileas (all released) Glen Kamara (free, to Dundee) Wojciech Szczesny (£10.5m, to Roma), Damian Martinez (loan, to Getafe)

Mustafi, meanwhile, arrived last summer in a £35million deal from Valencia but after a bright start, his form deteriorated rapidly and his loss of form, coupled with the emergence of Rob Holding, saw the Germany international lose his place in the side.

Inter are said to have already agreed terms with the versatile defender but would prefer to take the player on loan before making his transfer a permanent one in a year’s time.

Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday having started the new season in typically uncertain fashion.

A chaotic opening day win over Leicester was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Stoke last weekend and another setback agains Jurgen Klopp’s freescoring side could see the Gunners fall six points behind the early pacesetters.
