Chelsea are fearful that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is getting cold feet over a move to Stamford Bridge and are wary that Liverpool could hijack their agreement with Arsenal.

The Blues agreed a £35million fee with Arsenal for the winger on Monday but there’s been little progress on his move in the last 24 hours.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was given permission to leave England’s training base but he stayed in their resort as Liverpool plot a bid for the 24-year-old.

Gareth Southgate wants any transfer business concluded so his players can focus on England’s clash with Malta on Friday and the delay has concerned Chelsea.

Liverpool have a long-term interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain and could provide him with a greater chance of playing in his favoured central midfield position.

Chelsea could hold the advantage though as Arsenal’s relationship with Liverpool remains frosty after the Gunners’ pursuit of Luis Suarez.

In any case, Oxlade-Chamberlain is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s informed Arsenal that he will not sign a new deal.
