Arsene Wenger’s lost his patience with Granit Xhaka and could sell the Swiss midfielder after just one season with the Gunners.

The midfielder has failed to impress since his £34million move from Borussia Monchengladbach and Wenger has a wealth of options in midfield.

Xhaka, like his team-mates, was poor in Arsenal’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday but Wenger tore into the Swiss international for his performance on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old was deployed as Arsenal’s deep-lying central midfielder but vacated his area on numerous occasions.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to join Liverpool on deadline day, while Alexis Sanchez is hopeful of completing his move to Manchester City.

The moves will wipe a significant amount of Arsenal’s wage bill but Wenger’s squad remains bloated and the Sun claim Xhaka is next in the firing line.

It’s set to be a chaotic deadline day in north London and Sanchez’s move to the Etihad could hinge on Arsenal’s ability to entice Julian Draxler to the club.

The German is available for just £32m and Wenger needs a replacement for Sanchez before he can be allowed to leave.
