Liverpool remain confident of signing Monaco star Thomas Lemar in a £74m transfer, despite the Reds agreeing a £40m deal to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Reds matched Chelsea’s £40m bid for the England international on Wednesday and the 24-year-old is set to move to Anfield after turning down a move to Stamford Bridge.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was given permission to undergo his Liverpool medical at England’s St George’s Park training base and his move to Anfield was expected to end Liverpool’s interest in Monaco winger Lemar.

However, Klopp feels his side’s title challenge collapsed last season due to a lack of depth and he wants Lemar to add extra options to his attack.

According to the Independent, Liverpool still want to sign Lemar and feel they can seal a £74m deal with Divock Origi going the other way.

Lemar is currently on international duty with France but he will be given permission to leave their training camp to sort his future.

The 21-year-old had been keen on a move to Arsenal but the Gunners are unwilling to pay such a fee for the winger.

Arsene Wenger admitted last week that a move was ‘dead’ for Lemar and this opened the door for Liverpool.
