Manchester City have sent members of their medical team and legal department to Chile as the club close in on a deal for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

Pep Guardiola’s men are still locked in negotiations with the Gunners for the Chile international but City believe Arsene Wenger’s stance on letting Sanchez go has softened in recent days.

The 28-year-old cut a forlorn and disgruntled figure during Arsenal’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and he remains determined to leave the club.

Sanchez has informed the club’s hierarchy that he will not sign a new deal to his existing contract that runs out at the end of the season and City are willing to pay up to £70m to get him.

City had been open to using Raheem Sterling in any deal for Sanchez but it looks increasingly likely that it will be a straight cash deal for the Chilean.

The clock is against City and the transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday. According to the Independent, City have sent a delegation to Chile in anticipation that they will need to complete a last minute deal for Sanchez.

Sanchez is at Chile’s training camp for the side’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers but he will be given permission to leave if he has to have a medical with Chile.

City have already had one bid of around £46m rejected by Arsenal but they’re confident of getting the man before the window shuts.
