Leicester have failed with two bids for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers, according to the BBC.

Chambers joined the Gunners in the summer of 2014 for £16million from Southampton but after a bright start he slipped down the pecking order and has been used primarily as a makeshift right-back.

The England international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough and hasn’t even made the bench in any of Arsenal’s three Premier League matches this season.

Arsenal have reportedly told the 22-year-old he would be unlikely to feature at centre-half this season and were happy to sanction his sale last month, quoting Crystal Palace a price of £27m.

Arsene Wenger is understood to have changed his mind, however, and has knocked back two approaches from Leicester said to be in the region of £20m.

Craig Shakespeare’s side are likely to be active on deadline day and have also made an approach for West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans.

The 2015/16 Premier League champions are also fending off interest in England international Danny Drinkwater and Riyad Mahrez, both of whom are attracting interest from Chelsea.
