Chelsea’s failed move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain reportedly saw them consider a late move for Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier.

Aurier is expected to leave PSG for Tottenham, with the north London club understood to have agreed a £23million deal for the 24-year-old defender.

Spurs had to wait for a response from the Home Office over the granting of a UK work visa for Aurier after the Ivory Coast international was convicted of assaulting a police officer last year.

The full-back dropped a huge hint on Twitter that he had been given the green light to move to England on Wednesday and Chelsea were keen to discuss a possible move with PSG.

However, according to L’Equipe, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had insisted on an ‘exclusivity clause’ in his agreement with the Ligue 1 giants meaning they could only talk to Spurs.

Antonio Conte has been forced to assess other options after Liverpool agreed a £40million deal with Arsenal for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It’s believed Southampton right-back Cedric Soares has also been on Chelsea’s radar this summer.
