Barcelona are reportedly lining up a late transfer swoop for Paris Saint-Germain star Angel Di Maria after giving up on Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

The Catalan giants are determined to make one final signing before tonight’s Spanish transfer window deadline, and reports earlier today suggested they’d had another bid for Coutinho rejected.

The Brazil international has been Barcelona’s priority target for much of the summer, but it is now claimed that they hope to get a late deal for Di Maria done instead.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid man has also been on Barca’s radar in recent weeks, with PSG likely to be open to player sales after spending so much on Neymar this summer.

According to Sport, Barcelona look to be making progress on a late move for Di Maria, who no longer looks guaranteed a starting spot in Unai Emery’s side due to the additions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in attack.

A fee has not yet been agreed, with Barcelona said to be offering around £32million at the moment, though that is unlikely to be anywhere near enough in this current market.

The club had been willing to pay as much as £138m for Coutinho, so will need to up their offer for Di Maria before long if they are to bring the Argentine to the Nou Camp.

Di Maria has previously shone in La Liga, having starred for many years for Barcelona’s arch rivals Real Madrid before leaving for Manchester United in 2014.

Despite flopping in his single season in the Premier League, the 29-year-old remains regarded as one of the top attacking midfield players in Europe.
