Wayne Rooney has described Romelu Lukaku as ‘perfect’ for Manchester United.

The Belgian arrived at Old Trafford from Everton this summer and has made a quick impression.

He’s notched three goals in Manchester United’s opening three Premier League games following an impressive pre-season.

Rooney, the club’s all-time top scorer, believes his old side have managed to sign the ideal player.

‘For that United side, he is the perfect player,’ he told talkSPORT.

‘He is powerful, quick and strong and he scores goals, so certainly will improve that team.’

Rooney, who left Old Trafford over the summer to return to boyhood club Everton, is backing Manchester United to enjoy a successful season under Jose Mourinho.

‘Jose came in and last season in the league we struggled and weren’t consistent enough.

‘Obviously in the cups United did well. I  could see   where Jose was going with the team and they will be a big success.’

The Red Devils currently sit top of the Premier League after three wins from three. They resume their campaign away against Stoke before hosting Rooney’s Everton side.
