With the summer transfer window closed and the first international break of the season finished, Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to Leicester City.

Antonio Conte’s side travel to the King Power Stadium having taken six points from their first three league games of the season, recovering well in recent weeks from a difficult start to the new campaign.

Two new arrivals bolstered Conte’s squad on deadline day, as England international Danny Drinkwater and Italian defender Davide Zappacosta joined the reigning champions at a combined cost of £55million.

Whether the duo will make their debuts against Leicester is up for debate, however, and Conte also has a decision to make over Eden Hazard.

DEFENCE

After conceding three goals in 45 minutes against Burnley on the opening day of the season, Chelsea’s defence has appeared to revert back to the one that helped Conte win the league by seven points last term.

David Luiz has continued to impress and will once again be at the heart of the Chelsea back-line, partnered by Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpiliceuta. Club captain Gary Cahill is still unavailable – the England international will serve the final game of his three-match ban at Leicester.

Victor Moses, who was a revelation for the Blues last season, arguably deserves to retain his spot in the side but Conte may be tempted to play £25million signing Zappacosta.

MIDFIELD

N’Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater was one of the key partnerships that enabled Leicester to win the title two years ago but it appears unlikely that the pair will revive their relationship at their former stomping ground this weekend.

The 27-year-old has missed the start of the season amid speculation over his future and Conte is likely to introduce him from the bench with Cesc Fabregas in line to start.

Tiemouke Bakayoko, the £40million signing from Monaco, should be almost fully fit after a knee injury damaged his preparations for the new season but may find it difficult to break into the starting XI.

ATTACK

Alvaro Morata, having scored three goals in his last four games for club and country, will lead the line for the Blues and will hope to continue to impress Chelsea fans, who have begun to forget about their top goal scorer from the previous campaign, Diego Costa.

A big decision for Conte will be whether he takes a gamble on Hazard and opts to start the Belgian superstar after his efforts for the national side.

The 26-year-old sustained a serious ankle injury in the summer but stepped up his fitness by playing in friendlies against QPR and Everton youth teams in recent weeks.

He also featured in Belgium’s World Cup qualifying wins over Gibraltar and Greece but Conte is thought to be unwilling to risk Hazard at this stage, meaning he will most likely start from the bench and be brought on if required.
