Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes he’s signed the best player in the Bundesliga in Naby Keita, who will join the Reds from RB Leipzig in next summer’s transfer window.

The Guinea international will have a £48million release clause at the end of this season, which Liverpool have already met a year in advance to win the race for his signature.

Keita will now spend one final season in Germany with Leipzig, and Klopp is already excited about the potential he’s shown and what he can bring to his squad at Anfield.

Discussing the incoming signing, Klopp expressed his view that Keita was the best player in the German top flight last season, level only with Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

‘I’ve got lots of contacts in Germany and I’ve never got so many congratulations messages after we signed him,’ Klopp said.

‘He is the best player in the league. I’d have preferred him this season!

‘Last year together with Thiago Alcantara they were the best in the league. He’s done that in different leagues too.’

Liverpool could be in need of quality in midfield next season due to doubts over Emre Can’s future, with the 23-year-old in the final year of his contract.

Keita looks ready-made to replace Can in that defensive midfield role if he does leave, but can also operate further forward if needed.
