Jonny Evans has stayed at West Brom because Arsenal and Manchester City failed to meet his asking price, according to Tony Pulis.

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move away during the latter stages of the transfer window but has ended up remaining at The Hawthorns.

City reportedly submitted an £18 million bid for Evans, while Arsenal were also keen on a deal.

But Pulis reveals both clubs couldn’t match West Brom’s valuation.

‘The bottom line with Jonny is that Arsenal were interested and Man City were interested, they just never met the valuation the football club wanted,’ said the West Brom manager.

‘If they’d have met the valuation it might have been a different situation.

‘I’m pleased that Jonny stayed.

‘He has got to knuckle down now, get back in the team, and start showing everybody what a good player he is again.

‘I hope we can offer him a new contract and tie him down, we will speak next week about what Jonny is thinking and what he wants to do.’
