Ederson received no broken bones in his face following Sadio Mane’s red-card challenge in Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Liverpool on Saturday.

The City goalkeeper was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher after the Liverpool forward’s boot connected with his face in the first half of the match at the Etihad Stadium.

Mane is set to be given a three-match domestic ban after he was given a straight red card by referee Jon Moss.

Ederson, meanwhile, was taken to City’s nearby Etihad Campus medical department for an assessment before returning to the stadium shortly before half-time.

And after the win, Benjamin Mendy posted a picture of Ederson with his face covered in plasters and stitches.

Pep Guardiola admits he remains unsure over Mane’s red card but praised his goalkeeper for his performance in the first half.

‘Ederson, the doctor says there is nothing broken. He also saved us in the first half from Mohamed Salah,’ Guardiola said after the match.

‘Mane didn’t see him, he was looking at the ball but the impact was huge.

‘I don’t know if it was a red card. I didn’t speak about the decision when we had Kyle Walker sent off against Everton so I will not now.’
