Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed that David De Gea will start the side’s opening Champions League clash versus Basel.

Sergio Romero, who is yet to make an appearance this term, will have been hoping for a chance to impress at Old Trafford on Tuesday night but the goalkeeper must settle for a place on United’s bench.

The Argentinian shot-stopper started in goal for the majority of United’s Europa League campaign – including the final against Ajax – but it appears Mourinho will be playing his first-choice ‘keeper in Europe this term.

Asked about De Gea, Mourinho responded: ‘He is doing really well and is very confident.

‘I will go with him again tomorrow.’
