For years Arsenal have been linked with Karim Benzema but any hopes of a move are set to be killed off by the stunning new contract he’s expected to sign with Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old forward has long been rumoured to be on Arsene Wenger’s radar, with it being almost a yearly occurrence that he’s tipped to move to the Emirates only for a deal never to materialise.

It could well prove to be one of those transfers that never comes to fruition and if he signs the latest contract on the table from Real Madrid, a deal for Arsenal would likely become nothing more than a fantasy.

The France international has reportedly been offered a bumper new four-year deal, with a simply staggering release clause of £900million, according to French outlet Le Journal de Dimanche.

Benzema has largely been the first-choice frontman at the Santiago Bernabeu since his arrival in 2009 and is well established under compatriot Zinedine Zidane.

He’s already lifted the Champions League on three occasions, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and two Club World Cups.

And he looks set to extend his successful stay in the Spanish capital until 2021.
