Liverpool have been told that Timo Werner has no release clause in his RB Leipzig contract, putting the Bundesliga club in control over his future amid latest transfer speculation over the striker.

The 21-year-old has really caught the eye this season with some prolific displays, scoring four goals in four games for his club and three in two for Germany during the latest international break.

Werner’s fine form has seen him linked with both Liverpool and Real Madrid in the last few days, but the Reds will surely have to pay up if they are to have any hope of bringing the youngster to Anfield.

Liverpool took advantage of a clause in Werner’s team-mate Naby Keita’s contract, and have a deal in place to sign him for £48million next summer.

However, Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff insists there is no such clause for Werner, and has told clubs they are not planning to let their star player go.

‘He has a contract until 2020 and he feels at home here,’ Mintzlaff said, before confirming he had no release clause.

On keeping the player happy, he added: ‘We are playing in the Champions League. With this, we can offer Timo everything to continue his development here.

‘We are completely relaxed. Here, he has the perfect platform.’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will undoubtedly continue to keep a close eye on one of the top emerging talents from his native Germany, and could have plenty of money to spend next summer as well.

The Merseyside giants reportedly expect to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona after the World Cup, in a deal likely to see them bank over £100million.

Leipzig were, however, demanding close to £80m for Keita this summer before Liverpool instead activated the release clause that comes into affect next summer, so it could take a similar amount to persuade them to let Werner go.
