Harry Kane may have to leave Tottenham in order to become a world-class striker, according to Phil Neville.

The England international netted twice in Spurs’ 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday evening and is hunting down his third successive Golden Boot in the Premier League.

Kane has been linked with a move to Manchester United, while Antonio Conte has admitted he would like to sign the 24-year-old for Chelsea.

And Nevilles believe the striker’s desire to win trophies could force him away from Tottenham in the future.

‘He could have to leave Spurs to become that real top, top, world class [Robert] Lewandowski type player, he could,’ Neville told BBC Five Live.

Kane should be challenging for the Ballon d’Or, says Neville. (AFP/Getty Images)

‘Because if Spurs maintain just being a top four team, that will not be good enough for somebody like Harry Kane.

‘I think he needs to be challenging for Ballon d’Ors.

‘I think he needs to be challenging for Champions Leagues and if Spurs are always going to be that ‘nearly’ team, eventually he will want to leave and join a Real Madrid or Barcelona.’
