Manchester United defender Luke Shaw appears set for his long-awaited first-team return against Burton Albion on Wednesday evening.

Shaw, 22, has not featured for Jose Mourinho’s side after suffering ankle ligament damage versus Swansea back in April and the left-back has been working his way back to full fitness with United’s Under-23s.

However, Shaw was not named in the U23 squad for their clash with Chelsea on Monday night, suggesting that the England international could finally make a senior appearance in this week’s EFL Cup tie.

Jose Mourinho revealed that the ex-Southampton man is ready to do battle with Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian for a place in his starting XI ahead of the side’s 4-0 defeat of Everton.

‘Luke Shaw is not injured anymore so it’s a question of form, it’s a question of option,’ Mourinho told the media.

‘But he is not injured, he’s recovered.’

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Marcos Rojo remain on the sidelines for the Red Devils.
