Leaving Arsenal for Liverpool has been described as a ‘relief’ for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain by manager Jurgen Klopp, who believes it will be good for the player’s development.

The England international made the somewhat surprise move from the Emirates Stadium to Anfield on deadline day this summer, having rejected a new contract with the Gunners.

Oxlade-Chamberlain ended up costing Liverpool around £40million, despite rarely being a regular in the starting line up during his six years with Arsenal.

Still, Klopp believes he has moved at the right time and can take his game a step further at Liverpool, with the fresh start described by the German as a ‘relief’ for the player.

‘We play different to Arsenal, that’s clear,’ Klopp explained. ‘It doesn’t mean we play better or worse, just different.

‘Being involved in different football is good for development because it helps you react in different moments.

‘Arsenal changed a lot since Arsene (Wenger) is there. I’m sure they didn’t always play with three at the back and with wing backs and so Alex played in different positions when he was there.

‘It’s the highest quality if you can play in different positions in the Premier League. That says a lot about you.

‘A new start is very often a kind of relief.’

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Liverpool career hasn’t got off to the best of starts, with the Reds losing one and drawing two of his first three games with the club.
