Jurgen Klopp slammed his Liverpool defence after Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester City and said he was ‘sick’ of conceding easy goals.

The Reds dominated the opening 45 minutes at the King Power Stadium but were unable to find a breakthrough, allowing City to grow in confidence.

Substitute Okazaki fired the Foxes ahead shortly after the break and Islam Slimani wrapped up the victory with a superb strike ten minutes later.

Asked to explain how Liverpool lost their grip on the match, Klopp told Sky Sports: ‘It’s actually easy to explain, we played good football in the first half and missed big chances.

‘That’s football – it’s at least 90 minutes. The goals we conceded are a second ball from a corner and a throw in again.

‘I’m sick of [conceding] goals like this to be honest, you cannot play football and do that.

‘The Leicester team somehow survive in the game as we aren’t clinical enough. That is okay but then you need to stay concentrated. They scored too easy.

‘With the first goal we don’t push up together… I’ve said it 1,000 times.’

The Reds, who face Leicester again in the Premier League on Saturday, started the fixture well with Philippe Coutinho causing problems for the hosts’ defence.

Despite impressing the Brazilian forward was taken off at half-time and Klopp said this was always the plan.

’45 minutes was the limit for him,’ the 50-year-old manager said. ‘It was always the plan to take him off at half-time.’
