Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has earned praise for the way he’s managed Anthony Martial this season, helping the French striker hit top form at Old Trafford once again.

The 21-year-old got off to a flyer with the Red Devils when he joined from Monaco in 2015/16, but struggled to replicate that form in his second season, scoring just four Premier League goals.

Martial now has three to his name in just five appearances this term, with United boss Mourinho largely using him as a super-sub, starting him in just one game so far.

Former United man Dion Dublin believes Martial could soon establish himself as a regular starter, but also praised Mourinho for the way he’s used the France international this term and for how he’s managed to motivate him to improve his game.

‘I don’t know whether he’s going to force his way in or whether he’s going to continue to play that role,’ Dublin said. ‘I think either way he will be effective.

‘I don’t think he’s the kind of player that sulks. I think he’s the kind of player that gets on with things, so it’s down to Mr Mourinho.

‘At the moment he’s got it spot on, so if Martial can stay strong, stay focused, and stay a team player, United will be a better team.’

Martial was United’s top scorer in his first season at the club, netting 17 times in all competitions to establish himself as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe.

Mourinho didn’t seem entirely happy with the player’s efforts last year, but it now looks as though the pair can work together and help Martial fulfil his obvious potential.
