Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has lifted the lid on the ‘secret targets’ he has with Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford.

Both Lingard and Rashford were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils in a 4-1 Carabao Cup victory over Burton Albion and Anthony Martial scored United’s fourth to send Jose Mourinho’s men through to the fourth-round of the competition.

Rashford has now scored six goals in 10 appearances for club and country this term and Lingard is confident the pair of them achieve their goals for the season ahead.

The England star told United Review: ‘I think I’d like more goals and assists coming into play this year.

‘Marcus and I have set little targets for ourselves. In each game, we set them ourselves.

‘But that’s our little secret and we have our own ambitions as well. Hopefully we can achieve them.’

Lingard believes Rashford’s desire to ‘learn from the best’ can drive the youngster to great success this season.

He added: ‘Each game, he’s improving and he wants to work hard and learn from the best.

‘As long as he keeps scoring goals, people will talk highly about him.’
