Mauricio Pochettino insists new Tottenham signing Serge Aurier will learn from the sending off which nearly cost his side dear against West Ham.

The Ivory Coast international was dismissed on his first Premier League start for a needless second bookable offence with his team leading 3-1.

Cheikhou Kouyate’s late header halved the deficit and meant the visitors were forced to endure a late onslaught a man light, but Pochttino believes Aurier needs time to adjust to the pace of the Premier Leauge and refused to blame the former Paris Saint-Germain defender.

‘I think the first yellow was not a yellow but of course disappointed because he got the second and a red but that’s football.

‘I know very well as a player I made a lot of mistakes. I had a lot of problems but I’m happy with him. He’s settled really well. Only 20 days with us so I’m happy.

‘I’m disappointed like he is but it can happen.

‘You need time. Ligue 1 and the Premier League are completely different. I am happy with him.’
