Ederson contacted Sadio Mane when the Liverpool attacker reached out to the goalkeeper after the two collided dangerously on the pitch.

A high foot from Mane, as he challenged for the ball, caught Ederson in the face and opened up a nasty cut.

The Manchester City stopper had to be hauled off and needed eight stitches in his face.

Mane was issued a straight red and has now served a three-game ban due to the reckless challenge.

Ederson was straight back in action in City’s next game and revealed over the weekend that he had been in touch with Mane since the incident.

‘I had contact with him,’ said Ederson after City’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

‘He sent me a message. I told him to stay calm, those things happen inside the pitch, it could happen any time.

‘I told him to don’t worry and wish him a good season.’

Mane was quick to post on social media that he was sorry Ederson had been hurt and wished him a speedy recovery.

Liverpool can now welcome Mane back into the league matchday squads, but their attention switches to the Champions League next.

Ederson, on the other hand, insists he has felt no ill affects of the injury on his confidence.

‘No, whatsoever. I ended up having a hard hit in the face, but in the same week, I was ready to play in Champions League,’ he said.

‘I faced that game full of confidence again, without any fear and happy for the result we achieved.

‘I felt a strong kick, but I was always conscious. I knew it had been a long cut. I wanted to keep playing, but for medical issues, I couldn’t keep playing.

‘But I was always conscious, even if I had my face a little bit swollen. But after a week it was normal again.’
