Manchester United are reportedly set to revive their interest in sealing the £88million transfer of Antoine Griezmann as Chelsea’s Diego Costa nears a return to Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils are long-time admirers of the France international, but temporarily shelved their pursuit of him this summer when Atletico were handed a transfer ban.

This would have prevented the Spanish giants from replacing Griezmann this summer, prompting the 26-year-old to sign a new contract with the club for the time being.

It is understood, however, that both United and Griezmann remain keen on reviving the deal in the future, with the Premier League giants now likely to make a fresh bid for him next summer.

According to ESPN, this is down to Atletico bringing in Blues outcast Costa as a ready-made replacement for Griezmann up front.

The Spain international is set to link up with Diego Simeone’s side from January onwards, with Chelsea confirming last week that a transfer was close to being completed.

The champions have agreed a deal to sell Costa back to Atletico, with the player now expected to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the La Liga side.

Griezmann has been a big hit in his three seasons in the Spanish capital, also attracting some interest from Barcelona during the most recent transfer window.

Still, despite United filling that centre-forward role by signing Romelu Lukaku this summer, it seems Jose Mourinho could still be keen to find space in his side for Griezmann next season.
