Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas says he’s never had a better understanding with any striker he’s played alongside than with departing Blues star Diego Costa.

The 30-year-old has been blessed to play alongside a number of big names for club and country in a distinguished career at Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and with the Spanish national team.

Starting out in Arsenal’s famous Invincible side back in 2004, Fabregas struck up a fine partnership with all-time Premier League great Thierry Henry, and later combined well with Robin van Persie at the Emirates Stadium.

He then moved to Barcelona to play alongside Lionel Messi, whilst also combining with lethal Spain duo David Villa and Fernando Torres at the peak of their powers.

However, Fabregas has paid the enormous compliment to Costa of naming him as the front-man with which he felt he had the best understanding.

Costa has just agreed terms on a January move to Atletico Madrid, and Fabregas has made it clear what Chelsea will be losing by allowing him to leave.

‘Diego is the forward who has been best at reading and understanding my way of playing football,’ Fabregas told AS.

‘When I use the word forward, I’m not talking about the likes of Messi as a forward. With Leo we had a wonderful connection, but if we are to consider a classic No. 9 then there’s is no doubt that playing with Diego was sheer enjoyment.

‘He was wonderful at finding space and fought for every ball as if it were the last.’

Fabregas also compared Costa with Chelsea new-boy Alvaro Morata, who will replace him up front, and said that he is enjoying playing with him despite the clear differences in style from Costa.

He added: ‘Alvaro is more of a “in the box” striker and has a great goal scoring instinct and attacks the ball so well It’s a joy to play with him.’
