Marouane Fellaini has been called up to Belgium’s latest squad despite missing Manchester United’s win over CSKA Moscow with an ankle problem.

The 29-year-old picked up the injury during United’s 1-0 victory over Southampton last Saturday and didn’t travel to Moscow for the club’s Champions League tie on Wednesday evening.

Earlier this week, Jose Mourinho insisted that there would be ‘no pressure’ on Fellaini to play for his country during the international break and revealed that the midfielder was a doubt to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League this Saturday.

But Fellaini has made Roberto Martinez’s latest squad for Belgium’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

‘It was only when I saw it on TV that I realised Fellaini was very lucky,’ said Mourinho

‘It could be a much worse situation but in a moment where we don’t have Pogba and Carrick he becomes even more important than he always is.

‘I do not expect Fellaini to be out for a long time. There is no pressure on him [in the international break] so hopefully be back for us.’

Vincent Kompany has also made Martinez’s squad despite not playing for Manchester City since August 26.

Elsewhere, Radja Nainggolan continues to be omitted from Belgium’s squad as Martinez claims he wants continuity from his side, who have already qualified for next year’s World Cup.

‘The reason is simple,’ said Martinez.

‘We have two more matches and we need to keep up with the continuity. We have now found a system in which we are tactically good and Radja’s position is where there is a lot of competition.

‘It is a purely technical decision. We have already qualified, but continuity is important.

‘Experimentation is not for now, because we must keep winning to be the head of the World Cup.

Asked if Nainggolan had no chance of making Belgium’s next squad, Martinez replied: ‘No definitely not. My job is to follow everyone and I will also keep an eye on him.’
