Nacho Monreal opened the scoring for Arsenal against Brighton and Hove Albion and it appears the defender knew he would score at the Emirates.

The 31-year-old was making his seventh Premier League appearance of the season for the Gunners and finally ended his barren scoring run in the English top flight on Sunday afternoon.

Monreal had not scored a league goal for Arsene Wenger’s side since finding the net against Swansea during his first year in England back 2013.

And the Spaniard doubled his tally in the Premier League as he fired home from close-range in the 16th minute following a period of pinball inside Brighton’s penalty area.

Ahead of the match, Monreal tweeted: ‘Getting my shooting boots ready! #pumaONE!’

Wenger believes his team have turned a corner after their 4-0 thumping away at Liverpool.

‘It feels like a different team. You see the way we play football. You need a united group to do that,’ the Frenchman said before the game.

‘I put it down to the fact that we realised what we produced was not good enough. We stayed united and responded on the pitch.

‘Mentally I am very fresh. I love football and the way we want to play football so I am always motivated by that’
