Jose Mourinho has explained how Paul Pogba’s injury could be seen as a blessing in disguise for his fringe players at Manchester United.

Pogba has not played for the Red Devils since being forced off with a hamstring problem during the side’s 3-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League and Mourinho believes the injury could be ‘long-term’.

The France midfielder may require surgery, despite initial hopes that he could return to action after four weeks, but Mourinho believes United’s injuries can be ‘good’ for his peripheral players at Old Trafford.

Asked about United’s injury concerns, he said: ‘We never miss the players that are injured.

‘That’s our way of seeing it. They are injured, we don’t think about them.

‘It’s an opportunity for others, is a moment for others to step up and to get the chance, so I think that’s good.
