Liverpool have entered the race to sign Bayern Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz, according to reports.

The Reds sent scouts to watch the midfielder in Germany’s U19s clash with Belarus on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old scored four goals during Germany’s 5-1 win, living up to comparisons with Bayern Munich legend Michael Ballack.

Arsenal and Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the teenager for over 18 months but Liverpool scouts were present at the game to watch the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Havertz made 24 appearances for Leverkusen last season, scoring four goals for the Bundesliga club.

The midfielder made his debut at the age of 17 and has made four appearances at the start of this term.

Leverkusen will not entertain offers for the teenager in January but are realistic about keeping the midfielder in the long-term.
