Shkodran Mustafi limped out of Germany’s World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan and faces a race against time to be fit for Arsenal’s trip to Watford.

The centre-back pulled up with a thigh injury and hobbled off the pitch, assisted by medical staff.

Mustafi has been part of an Arsenal defence that has kept clean sheets in each of their last four Premier League matches, forming a mean back-three with Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal.

But Arsene Wenger will be sweating on the fitness of the 25-year-old after his withdrawal on international duty.

Should he be ruled out of the Watford clash on Saturday, Wenger will likely turn to either Rob Holding or Per Mertesacker to fill the void.

But Arsenal fans will be hoping that Mustafi’s injury is not too serious so he can rejoin what has been a solid backline.
