Victor Lindelof insists Manchester United’s title push will be handed a boost when ‘winner’ Zlatan Ibrahimovic returns to the fold.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for United last season but his campaign was cut short when he suffered a serious knee ligament injury in April.

Despite his lengthy lay-off, United rewarded Ibrahimovic with a new contract during the summer and the striker is expected to return to action at the start of 2018.

‘I haven’t seen him much because he’s been away doing his rehab but he will be back soon,’ Sweden international Lindelof said.

‘First of all, he’s a very strong player but, also, off the pitch he is a winner and he always wants to contribute. It will be very good for us to have him back with us at United. It will be a big help.’

Lindelof has struggled to adapt to his new surroundings at Old Trafford following his £31million summer move from Benfica and is yet to feature in a Premier League fixture.

But the 23-year-old insists he will do ‘everything he can’ to help the team when given another opportunity.

‘When I get my chance I want to do everything I can to help the team,’ Lindelof added. ‘That’s what I’ve been doing when I play Champions League. So, there’s no problem for me.

‘I’m just there to do my job. I am enjoying life in England, we are playing well.

‘I have good team-mates and good coaches and it is a competitive league, that’s what makes it the best in the world.

‘We had a very good start and we want to continue and play good football. We have a very good squad. We go game by game. It is a big game on Saturday and we are looking forward to it.’

United have only dropped two points in the league this season to emerge as early frontunners in the title race alongside Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

But the Red Devils face their toughest test so far when they travel to Anfield on Saturday to take on Liverpool.
