Fernando Llorente has revealed that he held talks with Antonio Conte about joining Chelsea this summer.

The 32-year-old was wanted by Conte in the January transfer window, but reports have claimed that Chelsea’s board had doubts about the striker due to his lack of resale value.

Llorente ended up joining Tottenham on deadline day for £11.5m, while Chelsea were unable to sign an alternative forward at such a late stage.

Reports have claimed that Conte is unhappy with Chelsea’s hierarchy over their pursuit of Llorente after a bid of just £5m was submitted to Swansea City.

When asked how close he was to joining Chelsea this summer, Llorente told Cadena SER: ‘That’s right, I was talking to Conte.

‘But that’s football, they [Chelsea] did not agree with Swansea.

‘Pochettino called me and I loved the project they sold me.’
