Harry Kane picked up his fifth Player of the Month award after a scintillating September, meaning there is now only one player in Premier League history to have won it more times.

After yet another barren August, Kane scored six goals in just four matches to fire Tottenham Hotspur up the table and move to within just one strike of the division’s top scorer, Romelu Lukaku.

That means he is now level with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie with five awards, behind only Steven Gerrard who took the title on six occasions.

His latest honour means Kane has broken away from the pack of star studded players who were all tied on four POTM awards, including Thierry Henry and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking about overtaking such company, he told Spurs’ official website: ‘Of course it’s great to be up there with them sort of names.

‘Of course there’s still a long way to go hopefully in my career. Let’s see what happens. It’s not something I think about too much, but whenever that stuff comes along it’s great to be up there.

‘I’m very pleased to get this award again, hopefully there will be a few more from now until the end of the season and just continue the form really.’

It is the second time in 2017 that he has been named the division’s best player, having also done so in February, and means Spurs players have now won four of the last six POTM prizes.

Teammate Dele Alli took the honour back in January, while Son Heung-min was April’s Player of the Month. Liverpool’s Sadio Mane was the August recipient of the award.
