Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t return to action until 2018, according to Andrew Cole.

The 36-year-old has been sidelined since April after tearing his ACL but he’s surprised United’s medical staff with his speed of recovery.

United handed the Swede a new one-year deal in August and there’s been speculation that he could return in late November.

Cole has been training with Ibrahimovic at United’s training ground as he makes his own recovery from a kidney transplant and, although he says the forward is doing well, it’s unlikely he’ll return before the end of the year.

‘[He’s doing]Really good. Back next year, I think, so he’s done well really,’ Cole told The Sun.

‘He’ll get games because he’s got so much quality. And he’s brilliant in the dressing room. I love Zlatan. He tells you how it is. He’s legendary.’

United take on Liverpool at Anfield without Ibrahimovic on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku is expected to lead the line for the Red Devils and he can break Cole’s scoring record of scoring eight in his first eight games for the club with a goal on Merseyside.
