Romelu Lukaku escaped punishment [Picture: SkySports]
Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku escaped punishment during his side’s clash at Anfield after an incident with Dejan Lovren.

The Belgian cut a frustrated figure during an opening 45 minutes which Liverpool dominated and he was isolated up front by himself.

Lukaku was lucky to escape a yellow card for petulantly swiping at Joe Gomez and was visibly frustrated after squandering United’s best chance of the opening half.

With half-time approaching Lukaku took a heavy touch on the halfway line and lost the ball to a combination of Lovren and Alberto Moreno.

Lovren was then seen clutching his face and replays showed Lukaku caught him with his boot after the pair tangled.

It is unclear if Lukaku meant any part of the incident and the nature of the fall certainly suggested it was an accidental collision.

However, Gary Neville on commentary claimed it ‘didn’t look for Lukaku’.
