The latest FIFA world rankings have confirmed England will be among the second seeds when the draw is made for next summer’s World Cup.

It’s also provided a clue to who Gareth Southgate’s side will face next summer.

The latest rankings, which will be used to determine the seeds for the World Cup group stage draw on December 1, put England as the 12th best team on the planet.

It means they are certain to face one of the top seeded teams in Russia. The quality of those top sides varies significantly, with hosts Russia and Poland among them – as well as Brazil and Germany.

As well as Uruguay, England will avoid a meeting with Spain and Italy (presuming the latter qualify via the play-offs.)

The draw will take place at the Kremlin when the 32 teams participating in the tournament will be split into eight groups of four teams.
